Croesy secure bonus point victory

Croesy entertained Talywain looking to avenge a close defeat at Emlyn Park earlier in the season. The first ten minutes of the game was evenly matched with neither side gaining the upper hand as veteran Talywain scrum half Nathan Powell used all his experience to ruin any Croesy possession. Croesy eventually secured good ball and started a sixty metre move with backs and forwards combining to enable Matthew Entwistle to score a fine try, which he also converted. Unfortunately in the passage of play leading to the try both outside half Haydn Simons and No. 8 Garin Eldred sustained leg injuries which ended their participation in the match. This forced Croesy into an early reshuffle, with replacement scrum half Luke Brown slotting in at outside half and Nick y Spanswick moving to No.8. This allowed Talywain to respond with an unconverted try.

A Matthew Entwistle penalty after Talywain strayed offside extended the Croesy lead before a second try was scored by full back Rhys Roberts following a series of Croesy drives with forwards Micki Witts and Sam Peard very much to the fore. The try was unconverted. With Croesy seemingly cruising to a comfortable half time lead, it was disappointing that the defence failed to prevent a second unconverted try just before half time although there was a hint of obstruction in the lead up to the try. At half time Croesy led 18-10.

The second half began with Croesy in the ascendancy and an early penalty goal from Matthew Entwistle for Talywain backs again straying offside, also resulting in a yellow card for one of the Talywain centres, was just reward. Croesy were now dominant and attacking from all parts of the field, and this adventurous play resulted in replacement hooker David Fosdick crossing in the corner after a huge step back inside the covering defender. The try was unconverted. The floodgates were now threatening to open and only frantic defence by Talywain kept the lead down, with Sam Peard appearing unlucky to receive a yellow card for taking a Talywain player out of a ruck illegally when a fourth Croesy try looked imminent. Despite Talywain being numerically superior Croesy maintained supremacy and just after returning to full strength full back Rhys Roberts crossed in the corner for another unconverted try despite the protestations of some Talywain players who mistakenly thought he had put a foot in touch although the footprint clearly showed that he had not done so.

At 31-10 and with 10 minutes to go Croesy were cruising, however with victory seemingly assured, the players appeared to take their foot off the gas and Talywain responded with two late converted tries putting the result in doubt. As the game drew to a close there was still time for tempers to boil over with a melee resulting from one of the Talywain wingers punching winger Steve Drummond after being tackled into touch. The result being a red card for the Talywain winger and a yellow card for Steve Drummond.. The game ending almost immediately after the incident with Croesy being the 31-24 victors.
