In one of the poorest displays seen for quite a while Croesyceiliog went down to a lively Caerleon side by 31pts to 17pts at Woodland Road on Saturday. The visitors arrived with a bare 15 players which meant that passive scrums were deployed. Caerleon soon went into a nine point lead through three penalties, the only reply being a single penalty from the home side. Caerleon were keeping their opponents on the back foot at every opportunity and half time came with a chance for Croesyceiliog to regroup.
The second half began with the visitors again on top which culminated in a very good try. This seemed to wake up the home side and after good forward play prop Greg Stephens went over in the corner. Hadyn Simons adding the conversion. Caerleon then hit back quickly and after poor tackling by the home side went over for an unconverted try to stretch their lead once again. Croesyceiliog from out of nowhere scored a brilliant individual try through full back Josh Parr which cut the deficit to seven points. The home side looked to be back in the match but once again indiscipline reared it's ugly head again with captain Matthew Entwistle being yellow carded, to which the visitors profited and scored another try to run out worthy winners. Croesyceiliog looked like a side that had met ten minutes before kick off, with no structure and allowing themselves to be drawn into seven a side type contest. Basic skills have semed to have gone out of the window in the last two matches with indiscipline also another major factor in the teams demise, playing games with 14 or 13 players because of ill-discipline not only lets the individual down but also the rest of the team.
